Junior Infants are settling in well to school life at Milltown National School. The children have been very busy getting to know their new friends, learning new songs and rhymes and listening to stories. Junior Infants are having lots of fun during child-led play: constructing, making jigsaws, playing with the doll house and farm set.

We celebrated "Wellbeing Week" in Junior Infants with activities such as circle time, compliment cards, obstacle courses with our buddies and an outdoor disco. The children thoroughly enjoyed the Samba Drumming Workshop with Sinéad from Cavan Institute.

Bike Green visited the pupils of Junior Infants. The children had so much fun learning to cycle a bike over the four week programme. 

We dressed up as superheros for Mental Health Awareness Day!

Junior Infants were all comfy and sensory friendly today for Sensory Friendly Friday.

We learnt lots of basketball skills including dribbling, passing and catching and shooting with Ricardo.

Junior Infants were busy exploring magnets and their effect on different materials. 

Junior infants enjoyed their GAA lesson with Seán. They developed lots of fundamental movement skills.

On 21st March, Junior Infants wore off socks for World Down Syndrome Day. They designed their own socks too.

We celebrated World Book Day on 7th March. Junior Infants dressed up as characters from their favourite story. They brought in their favourite book to school and their buddy read it to them during Buddies.

Aistear: The Vets

For the month of March, our Aistear theme was The Vets. Junior Infants had lots of fun learning about animals and taking car of their pets. Using play doh, they made bandages, cages, treats and pets. In construction, they made kennels for all the animals. In role play, the children took on lots of different roles such as the vet, the receptionist, the pet owner, the nurse and pets. The children painted their favourite animal and using tangrams to make different pets. 

In Junior Infants, we learnt about Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday. We coloured our own Lent Cross for our Prayer Space. 

Aistear: The Post Office

For the month of February, our Aistear theme is The Post Office. The classroom was a hive of activity over the last few weeks, as the children wrote letters, bought stamps, post letters and delivered parcels in the Role Play Area. We had lots of fun sorting letters and weighing parcels. We took turns being the Postman and the customer. In the Construction Area, the children made post boxes, post vans and Post Offices. We learnt that parcels and some letters are weighed and we practiced this using balances. We designed are our stamps too. In Geography, we learnt all about the journey of a letter and a parcel. We had a special visit from our local Postman. He told us all about his job as a postman.

We learnt the story of Saint Bridget in Junior Infants and we designed a cloak for Saint Bridget

In Junior Infants, we have been learning all about Dublin. For Art, we recreated our own Van Gogh inspired 'City at Night' Art piece.

Craig Filmer has been teaching Junior Infants Gymnastics for the last few weeks. We have learnt lots of basic movement actions like balancing, rolling, turning and twisting. We have performed forward and backward rolls and handstands. As well as, individual sequences using apparatus

Junior Infants learnt lots of new skills on the tablets with the help of their buddies.

Junior Infants had lots of fun making friendship bracelets with their buddies.

Junior Infants have been enjoying Athletics with Donal Connor. They had lots of fun doing relays and walking with bean bags on their heads!

Junior Infants have all settled well into school life. The children enjoyed blowing bubbles out on yard. In Math’s, the children have been matching pairs of objects.  They had lots of fun during child-led play.
